Centralia is America's most eerie ghost town — a borough abandoned after an underground coal mine fire ignited in 1962 and has been burning ever since. The fire melted roads, opened sinkholes, and filled homes with carbon monoxide, forcing evacuation of nearly all 1,100 residents. Today, graffiti-covered Highway 61 buckles and cracks while steam vents curl up through the asphalt.
