Bannack was Montana's first territorial capital and a gold rush boomtown that attracted fortune seekers — and notorious road agents — in the 1860s. Unlike most ghost towns, over 50 original structures survive including a hotel, church, school, and jail. Montana maintains it as a state park, and every summer it comes to life for Ghost Town Days, a living history festival.
