Hole-in-the-Rock is a natural sandstone cave in Papago Park, Phoenix, enlarged by the Hohokam people 2,000 years ago and later used as an observation point, homestead, and zoo. You crawl through a narrow passage to emerge inside a room-sized chamber open to the desert sky. Below, a trail winds through the red sandstone formations of Papago Park to the Phoenix Zoo.
